To finish making my digipack and website, I have to take a lot of pictures.
I really love the black and white look on rap covers and photoshoots. I decided I want to integrate this to my project somehow so I'm planning to shoot some pictures that will be specifically edited in black and white. To have reference for this I looked into some of Kendrick Lamar's advertisement work from his 2015 banger 'To Pimp A Butterfly' and some of Estevan Oriol's photography work.
Estevan Oriol's "LA fingers" is a closeup of hands and although it doesn't show a famous person it still shows something with a world of meaning to it. This picture is representative of a larger group, if I were to do something similar to this in Alans shoot it would definitely represent something more personal to him.
Another reason I love black and white in rap, especially in Kendrick Lamar's 'To Pimp A Butterfly' shoots is because I think black and white looks good on dark skin. I think there's a cool aesthetic to it and although it carries meaning in Kendrick's work, I would honestly use it in my video because I just like how it looks.
Apart from black and white, I was looking into also using colors for the shoot. I think with the equipment that I have I can definitely get shoots with good coloring that could be used for my website. For this I decided to look into the Weeknd's 'After Hours' photoshoot.
Although The Weeknd portrays himself as hurt and heartbroken in this album the photoshoots and videos for it are full of color. I think this is a really good look and if it is blended properly I think pictures like these in my digipack would blend well with black and white pictures.
Alan and I are going to do our photoshoot tomorrow and the music video on Thursday. Til then!
